Generalized fiducial factor: An alternative to the Bayes factor for forensic identification of source problems

چکیده
One formulation of forensic identification source problems is to determine the trace evidence, for instance, glass fragments found on a suspect crime. The current state science compute Bayes factor comparing marginal distribution measurements evidence under two competing propositions whether or not unknown originated from specific source. obvious problem with such an approach ability tailor prior distributions (placed features/parameters statistical model evidence) in favor defense prosecution which further complicated by fact that typical number typically sufficiently small choice/specification has strong influence value factor. To remedy this specification and choice, we develop alternative factor, within framework generalized fiducial inference, term Furthermore, demonstrate empirically, synthetic real Netherlands Forensic Institute casework data, deficiencies classical/frequentist likelihood ratio approaches.

Progress in science often comes from discovering invariances in the relationship between variables. Invariances correspond to null hypotheses. As is commonly known, it is not possible to accumulate evidence for the null hypothesis in conventional significance testing. We highlight a Bayes factor alternative to the t-test for accumulating evidence for either the null or alternative hypotheses. T...
متن کاملGeneralized Induced Factor Problems
Given a graph G = (V,E) and a family H of graphs, a subgraph G′ of G is usually called an H-factor, if it is a spanning subgraph of G and its every component is isomorphic to some member of H. Here we focus on the case K2 ∈ H. Many nice results are known in the literature for this case. We show some very general theorems (Tutte type existence theorem, Tutte-Berge type minimax formula, Gallai-Ed...
متن کاملBayes factor consistency in regression problems
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the Bayes factor for regression problems in which observations are not required to be independent and identically distributed and provide general results about consistency of the Bayes factor. Then we specialize our results to the model selection problem in the context of partially linear regression model in which the regression function is assumed to b...
متن کاملIdentification of a postmortem redistribution factor (F) for forensic toxicology
Background: Postmortem redistribution (PMR) refers to the changes that may occur in drug concentrations after death. Consequently, postmortem concentrations in blood may not always replicate the antemortem drug levels. Literature supports the model describing drugs with a liver (L) concentration to peripheral blood (P) concentration ratio less than 5 (L/kg) being prone to little or no PMR. Conv...
